It 
        is with great sadness that the family of Veronica Flournoy-Fleming announces 
        her passing after a long illness, on Sunday, August 19, 2008, at Central 
        Florida Memorial Hospital, Sanford. 
         
        Veronica will be forever remembered by her husband, Jeff Fleming, her 
        mother, Eileen Flournoy, her daughters, Candace Trahan-Flournoy, 12, and 
        Keeshawna Lyerly-Flournoy, 10. Veronica will also be fondly remembered 
        by her brothers, Shaun Flournoy, of New York, Craig Flournoy, of Deltona, 
        and her sister Elizabeth Battipaglia, of Spain. She will be dearly missed 
        by her friends. 
         
        A native of Far Rockway, Queens, NY, Veronica. 39, graduated Cum Laud 
        with a Bachelor?s of Science degree in Sociology from Marymount Manhattan 
        College, New York City. She worked as a housing advocate with the Bailey 
        House in NYC an organization whose mission is to empower people living 
        with HIV/AIDS. In 2004 she continued her social work for those affected 
        by HIV/AIDS at ACT and Serenity House in Daytona. Veronica was dedicated 
        to public advocacy for the incarcerated and as a member of the Mothers 
        of the New York Disappeared helped to reform the Rockefeller Drug laws 
        in New York State. 
         
        A Memorial Service in Memory of Veronica will be held on Thursday, August 
        23, at 7:00 P.M., at the Calvary Baptist Church, 671 N. St. Rd 415, Osteen, 
        FL, with Pastor Rick Scarlett officiating. 
         
        The family will graciously accept Memorial Donations in Memory of Veronica.
